The Pope invites the Youth of all continents to an international meeting in a specific place in the world.
The invitation is directed to young people and young adults until the age of 30, at first to Catholics, but also to any young person who accepts the Pope's invitation.
World Youth Day is a Pilgrimage of young people. They set off together for meeting with Jesus Christ.
World Youth Day is a Celebration of faith. Young people are reinforcing their faith in God, or they get to learn it anew. They experience the Church as a community which goes beyond national borders. They discover the gift of being baptised and find a new approach to the celebration of Eucharist and Reconciliation.
World Youth Day is a Celebration of encounter. The guests learn more about the hosting ountry, its culture and society, as well as its religious life. On the other hand the guests share about their own countries and their way of Christian life.
World Youth Day is a Celebration of joy. Enthusiasm and youthfulness - distinguishing marks of World Youth Day - are expressed in a variety of music, dance and arts performances in the streets and squares, in a spontaneous or organized way: a celebration of a peaceful gathering of the nations.
The World Youth Day is a Celebration of communion beyond all barriers of language and culture, and a firm expression of the conviction that God will bring about a new era of justice and peace for all mankind.
